Trabzonspor AŞ have begun their first UEFA Champions League campaign in fine style with four points from their
first two games and the unexpected leaders of Group B will be seeking to maintain their unbeaten record on matchday three when they face PFC CSKA Moskva. • The Russian side have had to recover from a two-goal deficit in both their games. At LOSC Lille Métropole on 14 September they had Seydou Doumbia to thank for rescuing a point with two goals inside the final 18 minutes. • In the second round of matches FC Internazionale Milano established a 2-0 lead in the Luzhniki Stadium before Alan Dzagoev's free-kick and Vágner Love's goal appeared to have earned CSKA another point. However, Inter had the last word through substitute Mauro Zárate. • Trabzonspor earned their 1-1 draw against Lille through Gustavo Colman's second-half penalty, awarded after Adrian Mierzejewski's cross had been handled. That cancelled out Moussa Sow's clinical finish for the visitors on the half-hour. • Their first ever appearance in the competition produced a dream outcome for the Turkish team as Ondřej Čelůstka stunned 2010 European champions Inter with a goal 14 minutes from time in San Siro on matchday one to give Şenol Güneş's men a famous victory. Match background • The teams are meeting for the first time and Trabzonspor have never faced Russian opponents but CSKA only have to go back two seasons for their last fixture against Turkish visitors, beating Beşiktaş JK home and away in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Evgeni Aldonin scored for CSKA in stoppage time to gain a 2-1 away victory on 8 December 2009 after the home game on 30 September had produced the same scoreline in favour of the Russian club, Dzagoev notching the opening goal. • The Moscow side's other UEFA Champions League home game against visitors from Turkey brought a 2-2 draw with Fenerbahçe SK in the 2007/08 group stage with Igor Akinfeev in goal for the subsequent 3-1 away defeat. • In the 1971/72 European Champion Clubs' Cup first round CSKA beat Galatasaray AŞ 3-0 at home to complete a 4-1 aggregate success. • In that 2007/08 campaign, CSKA took just one point from their three home matches while two years later they won two home games in the group, losing the other. In the 2009/10 knockout rounds they drew 1-1 with Sevilla FC at home and lost the quarter-final home leg against Inter 1-0. Team ties • Róbert Vittek scored Slovakia's equaliser in Moscow against Russia in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The game, which ended 1-1, was played at the Dynamo Stadium on 4 September 2004. • Tomáš Necid and Čelůstka played together at SK Slavia Praha. • Didier Zokora and Doumbia are both Ivory Coast internationals. • Zokora faced CSKA in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League round of 16 while at Sevilla. His team earned a 1-1 draw in Moscow, CSKA winning the second leg 2-1. • Both Vágner Love and Paulo Henrique spent part of 2010 in Brazil. Love played for CR Flamengo and scored the only goal against Paulo Henrique's SE Palmeiras on 2 June 2010, although Henrique did not feature. • Marek Sapara faced CSKA in a 2006/07 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round encounter while with MFK Ružomberok. CSKA won 5-0 on aggregate, Love scoring in both games. • Necid scored both goals for the Czech Republic in a 2-0 victory against Turkey in a UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying encounter on 5 November 2006. Onur Kıvrak was an unused substitute for Turkey. • Necid was in the senior Czech team beaten 2-1 by Turkey in a friendly international on 22 May 2010.
